How to Draw Bubble Letter X
Capital X is two diagonal ribbons crossing at the center — one falling left-to-right, one falling right-to-left. The crossing point is the letter's heart: dead center, clean, and confident.
Draw the falling ribbon
Draw a diagonal stroke from the upper left to the lower right, straight and committed. This is the ribbon that dives like a downhill ski run.
Cross with the second
Draw the mirror diagonal from the upper right to the lower left, crossing the first exactly at its midpoint. Mark the center with a pencil dot first — eyeballing the crossing misses more often than not.
Weave or stack
Decide how the ribbons interact: in classic bubble style they fuse into one shape at the crossing; in a woven style, one ribbon passes over. Fused is easier — pick that first.
Puff the ribbons
Outline both diagonals with an even bubble stroke, keeping all four arms the same thickness. Taper the ends slightly rounded — blunt cuts look harsh on diagonals.
Center the cross
Erase the guides and check the crossing point. It should sit at the letter's true center; a high or low crossing makes the X look like it's falling over.
Common mistake
The off-center crossing
Beginners cross the ribbons above or below center, and the X immediately looks broken. That pencil dot at the midpoint is non-negotiable — both ribbons must pass through the same center point.
X and K are the diagonal specialists — both letters live or die on straight, confident angled strokes. If your K arms meet cleanly, X's crossing ribbons will too; compare the two on the bubble letter K page. Bubble letter K guide →
Lowercase
Lowercase Bubble Letter x
Lowercase x is the capital's crossing at x-height — same two ribbons, same center crossing, smaller frame. The dot-first rule applies at any size.
Mark the center
Place a light pencil dot at the middle of your x-height box — the crossing target.
Cross small ribbons
Draw both diagonals through the dot, keeping them short and straight.
Puff lightly
Add a modest bubble outline. Small x's get busy fast, so keep the stroke slim and the arms even.

FAQ
Bubble Letter X FAQs
What is the hardest part of drawing bubble letter X?+
Crossing both ribbons at the exact center. Mark the midpoint with a pencil dot first and route both diagonals through it — an off-center crossing makes the X look broken at a glance.
How do I draw a lowercase bubble x?+
Mark the center of your x-height box with a light dot, draw both short diagonals through it, and add a slim bubble outline. Keep the stroke modest — small x's get visually busy fast.
Why does X mark the spot on treasure maps?+
The X is the universal symbol for 'here' — two crossing lines pinpointing a location. Pirates in fiction adopted it, cartographers used it for centuries, and now it marks everything from signatures to kisses (XOXO).
How do I copy bubble letter X?+
Type your text into the generator at the top of the page, choose from 60+ bubble styles, and hit its copy button. The X copies as Unicode text, pasting cleanly into any app or document.
Can I download bubble letter X as a PNG?+
Yes — click Download PNG beneath any style for a high-resolution X image, with an optional transparent background for layering over photos, worksheets, or slides.
Can I use bubble letter X in Google Docs or Canva?+
Absolutely. Download the X as a PNG and insert it as an image, or copy the Unicode bubble text directly for editable text. Either way it is free — no account required.
Do outline or filled styles show the X crossing better?+
Outline letters are hollow shells made for coloring; filled letters are solid and read better at small sizes. X's crossing stays crisp in both, but the woven-ribbon look only works in outline form.
