How to Draw Bubble Letter O
Capital O is a single closed circle with even thickness all the way around. There are no corners, no joins, no decisions — just one continuous curve done well.
Start at the top
Place your pencil at twelve o'clock and begin curving clockwise. Starting at the top hides the join where the stroke meets itself.
Sweep one circle
Draw a single smooth circle in one confident motion, returning to your starting point. Speed helps — slow circles wobble, committed circles stay round.
Even the loop
Check the circle for flat spots or egg-shaped bulges. Nudge the wobbly sections now, while it is still a thin pencil line.
Thicken uniformly
Outline the circle with a bubble stroke of perfectly even width. The ring should look like a donut — same thickness at every point of the compass.
Close cleanly
Erase the guide and inspect the join at the top. It should vanish into the curve; if a bump remains, smooth it with the marker.
Common mistake
The egg
Beginners draw ovals instead of circles — taller than wide — and the letter reads as a zero trying to be an O. Check width against height: a true O measures the same both ways. When in doubt, trace a coin for the first few attempts.
O is Q without the tail — draw a flawless circle here and you have done the hard part of Q already. Add the tail on the bubble letter Q page. Bubble letter Q guide →
Lowercase
Lowercase Bubble Letter o
Lowercase o is the capital shrunk to x-height — the rare letter where both cases are truly the same shape. The only new skill is drawing it small and round.
Draw a small circle
Make the same confident circle as the capital, but sized to x-height — small enough to sit between the lines with room to spare.
Keep it round
Small circles egg-shape even more easily than big ones. Check the proportions before thickening.
Puff lightly
Add a modest bubble outline — at small sizes, too much thickness swallows the white center, so keep the ring delicate.

For Teachers & Parents
Classroom & Craft Ideas for Letter O
O is the warm-up letter — the five-minute circle practice that loosens wrists before the harder letters, and a natural first success for shaky hands.
Circle warm-up sheets
Start every drawing session with a row of O outlines to trace. It builds the smooth-curve muscle that C, G, Q, and S all depend on later.
O vs 0 detective work
Show typed O's and zeros side by side and teach the tells: zeros are often narrower or slashed. It matters for passwords and usernames — a genuinely useful life skill.
Cheerios sorting
Pour out the famous O-shaped cereal and sort pieces onto a giant printed bubble O by color or size. Edible manipulatives beat plastic ones for engagement.
In the Wild
Bubble Letter O in the Wild
O is the oxygen you are breathing (the chemical symbol O), the shape of Cheerios, and the 'O' in the XOXO sign-off — hugs, in letter form, at the end of messages everywhere.
FAQ
Bubble Letter O FAQs
What is the hardest part of drawing bubble letter O?+
Honestly? Drawing a true circle instead of an egg. Check that width equals height, start the stroke at twelve o'clock to hide the join, and keep the bubble ring evenly thick all the way around.
How do I draw a lowercase bubble o?+
Draw the same circle as the capital but smaller, at x-height. Keep the bubble outline delicate at small sizes — too much thickness swallows the white center and the letter becomes a dot.
How do I tell O apart from the number 0?+
Context usually decides, but the tells are: zeros are often narrower, taller, or printed with a slash through them. In handwriting, make your O's round and your zeros slightly oval — and the coloring page on this page is perfect for practicing the difference.
Can I print bubble letter O for my classroom?+
Yes — the coloring section generates a large printable O outline, ideal for tracing practice, circle warm-ups, and cutting out for displays. It is the most-printed page shape for good reason.
How do I copy bubble letter O?+
Type into the generator at the top of the page, choose from 60+ bubble styles, and press the copy button. The O copies as Unicode text and pastes into any app, bio, or document.
Does it work in mobile browsers?+
Yes. The generator, PNG downloads, and coloring pages all work in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android, with copying via the standard long-press gesture.
Can I use bubble letter O in Google Docs or Canva?+
Absolutely — download the O as a PNG and insert it as an image, or copy the Unicode bubble text for editable text. Both options are free and need no account.
